All,
I'd like to copy my favourite DVD to harddisc.
I copied the contents to a directory and used -C in the DVD-plugin
to point not to /dev/dvd anymore.
Plugin refused to work because of some hardware
checks which fail ... no wonder, it is an directory
and no dvd drive ...
Manually invoking mplayer works only partially and mplayer expects
the single vob files to be submitted. Same when starting mplayer
by the VDR menu with according mplayersorces.conf entry.
Are there any suggestions how to …
[View More]have DVD Playback with navigation
and the DVD's Menu under VDR _without_ having the disc in drive
but any kind of files/images on harddisc ?
Any hint appreciated!
Cheers,
Ralf

Hello,
The debian/rules of that source package generates the debian/patchlevel
file for inclusion into debian/vdr-dev/usr/include/vdr/patchlevel, but
does that *after* the creation of the vdr-dev binary-indep package...
The following added dependency solves that :
106 # Build architecture-independent files here.
107 binary-indep: build install
108 dh_testdir -i
...
"debian/rules" 158 lines

Sorry for tha late answer, not reading so offen.
On the Suse 9.0 system you could try a newer version from here (contains
the VDSB Fix from Olive -…
[View More] see below) :
http://www.linuxdvb.tv/download/
The bug was Fixed by Oliver - see here :
http://www.vdrportal.de/board/thread.php?threadid=28559
On the 9.2 system I would recommend a newer kernel and a DVB-Kernel CVS
driver.
See : http://www.linuxtv.org/cvs.php
Not sure, maybe the CVS Driver compiles on a Suse 9.2 kernel !? At least
you could try that ;)
I am using Suse 9.1 with Kernel 2.6.10 and a CVS Driver from 24.03.2005
and it runs _very stable_ with 2xFF (1.6 and 1.3) and VDR 1.3.20 -
1.3.23 :)
Not sure what DVB Driver date one should use for the Skystar - maybe
somone can recommend one ?
If you are not used to cvs then you can get another version by date this
way :
cvs -d :pserver:anonymous@cvs.linuxtv.org:/cvs/linuxtv co -D "2005-03-24
23:21" dvb-kernel
That was the time when I got my CVS Driver ;)

I lost my temper with crashes with dxr3, and now I have DVB-S FF
(Technotrend 1.3) to be used as output only. Here are pros and cons:
+ display is not getting messed with OSD/mp3 plugin
+ no more hard crashes where conputer needs reset. VDR watchdog takes
care
- Jammed and killed by watchdog all the time. I had problems with
DXR3, but now usability is worse. After pressing back from viewing
recoderd program 50% it gets jammed and watchdog restart. There was
recording running at the …
[View More]same time, and also noad running (with nice).
- Picture, all colors are too bright. I need
to adjust brigtness, color and contrast (and still not happy). I
suppose this would need some module parameter, but did not had time
to study this far.
- After boot vdr thinks volume is 0, and when I start adjusting
volume, for 0.5s it is FULL, then it gets to where it should
be.
My system is P350, 224M memory, vdr 1.3.23, 2.4 kernel, dvb-kernel
drivers from CVS ~2 weeks ago (needed CVS version for Airstar2)
I was expecting to get stable usable system by getting FF card, but no
way. Any ideas what might the problem be:
- Too slow CPU
- 2.4 kernel, everybody uses 2.6 ?
- Using DVB-S as output only is bad idea
- Bad HW (computer or DVB-FF)
- Bad DVB driver version
- Bad VDR version
- Bad luck
- Nothing broken, this is the way it is for everybody. I should use
more M$-products to get to used crashes

Hello,
I was wondering why my runvdr program does not reload the DVB kernel
modules (Skystar2), and found that I lacked a /etc/modutils/dvb
describing what modules the "dvb" alias represents (Debian).
I created the following one from a dvb-ttpci one :
root@vdr:/etc# cat /etc/modutils/dvb
probeall /dev/dvb skystar2
alias char-major-250 dvb
alias dvb skystar2
below skystar2 alps_bsrv2 alps_tdmb7 alps_tdlb7
add below skystar2 grundig_29504-401 grundig_29504-491
add below skystar2 stv0299 …
[View More]ves1820
But I still can't load the modules :
root@vdr:/etc# modprobe dvb
FATAL: Module dvb not found.
Questions :
* is the syntax of the /etc/modutils/dvb correct ?
* what must I do after modifying the file (I did update-modules.modutils
and update-modules, even depmod)
I usually run the following and they're in memory, but runvdr doesn't
reload them like this : modprobe skystar2; modprobe stv0299

I keep getting these nasty _loud_ high pitch noises whenever broken data
comes out of the dvb card. As it appears absolutely impossible to get so
strong signal that there are never any errors in the stream I think it
would be nice if the plugin could just ignore the broken audio frames
instead of trying to decode them.
I get the feeling this is actually a "feature" in libavcodec as I get the
exact same behaviour when playing recordings with mplayer using the ffmp2
codec. With mp3lib, …
[View More]however, everything is fine.
This is definitely the number one on my list of annoying features and I
don't understand why no one has ever brought it up before. Maybe because
no one ever thought it would even be possible to fix? Have I missed
something? Is there a patch for ffmpeg/libavcodec I forgot to put in?
The other bug I feel is worth mentioning is that the dvb subtitles
disappear after a while (20 minutes maybe) when playing a recording. What
makes it interesting is that this never seems to happen when watching a
live broadcast (or maybe it just takes over 2 hours or something).
This is really a minor annoyance, though. It doesn't happen all the time
and when it does all it takes to fix it is to quit the recording and start
it again. Two buttons to push. But still, bug is a bug.
Other than that the GetSTC patch really does its job beautifully. The
subtitles are always perfectly in sync even after seeking and long pauses.
No more tweaking the timing manually and changing it all the time when
playing a recording.

Hello
For those that are not aware, Seppo Ingalsuo's
em8300-adv7170-wss (Wide Screen Signaling) patch
works only with DXR3 cards with the ADV7170 TV encoder
device to produce the line23 WSS signal for PAL TV.
For those of us unfortunate enough to have a DXR3 card
with a BT865 TV encoder chip, the WSS patch will not
work because the BT865 is incapable of producing
line23 WSS for PAL TV (Google "bt864a/bt865a errata").
I would like to ask the DXR3 plugin developers if an
alternative could be …
[View More]devised whereby for BT865 DXR3
cards some general purpose hardware pin could be
toggled between 12Volts(4:3) and 6Volts(16:9) to
emulate a pin8 Peritel/SCART wide screen signal?
Many thanks to all of the DXR3-plugin and EM8300
driver developers. The driver and plugin have recently
improved dramatically.
Special thanks to Ville Skyttä for providing the very
useful "Unofficial Hollywood+/DXR3 patches and CVS
snapshots".

I'am using the remote plugin with the keymap "alles.rc5", found on
vdr-portal.de.
Now I'm going to use another remote but I need to create an new keymap,
because the keys are not defined.
I found somewhere on the net, that u must load the modul dvb-ttpci with
the parameter av7110_irdebug=1 or something (don't really know at the
moment) - but this doesnt work any longer.
I'am using a 2.6 kernel with the dvb cvs-kernel from april 15th.
dev0 root # modinfo dvb-ttpci
parmtype: debug:int
…
[View More]parm: debug:debug level (bitmask, default 0)
that's the only debug thing i can select, but there are no entries for
the keymap in syslog.
I need the keycodes in syslog while pressing the buttons on the remote
to create the keymap. How?
thx and cu

I'm not really interested, but I would like to have it just for collection,
in case I'll need it in the future... :)

Hi,
while using the vdr I missed the following feature:
When using the vdr-menus I often have to move to the end of the
menu-list but the cursor normally appears on the first menuitem.
In this case I wanted to jump from the first item directly to the
last item.
This could be implemented as wrap-feature in the cursor-up-down
methods.
After this change I noticed a little loss of orientation
when I moved through the whole menu-list with the autoscroll cursor.
The time delays of screen update …
[View More]and of the remotecontrol leaded to
confusing wraps at the end of the menu.
This could be solved by watching timeouts before the wrap-around is
executed. This means that the wrap is only done when the cursor keys
are pressed slowly (without auto repeat).
My orientation was then increased by another modification which
ensures a strict pagination. This means that a page starts always at
the same item regardless of any cursor or page movement, at the last
Page are shown only some remaining items. It is not filled by moving
the contents towards the bottom of the screen.
Page starts are always at indices i*PAGELENGTH.
There is the possibility of showing some overlapping items by reducing
the PAGELENGTH by M and show M items of the next page at the generated
free space at the end of the screen.
Is anybody interested in these features?
How shall this behaviour be activated?
Via setup or via compiler switches?
I could generate a patch but the customization code is still missing.
