Subject says it all. It's just way too much work to transcode files if I want to send a clip to friends.

VLC and mpui can do that. Also some direct show filter exist that make it possible to play unaltered files.

I dream of the day vdr recordings are something more supported then the current mpeg-pes format!

WMP may not work, but mplayer does. You can get that for windows.
just use windows media wit the k-lite codec pack
