Hello to everyone!
I've been searching for help to a problem I have with VDR. Problem is, that I cannot watch channels with V-polarization without first switching to a channel which has H-polarization. This problem didn't exist before when I had single LNB's, only with the new twin-lnb's I installed. I've tried sooo many different combinations in diseqc.conf without finding a solution (if diseqc.conf is the problem??), so I'm finally turning to you guys, anyone have an idea where the problem is (or might be), or even where to start looking?
My setup is as follows: Gentoo Linux Suse Linux 10.0 (Multiboot with Gentoo) Kernel on both systems 2.6.13 3 twin-lnb's (pointing at 1.0W, 5.0E and 13.0E) Diseqc 4-1 Skystar 2-pci with softdevice-plugin
If I forgot something, let me know and I'll post the missing info.
Thanks in advance,
HH
Ummh, seems like this is a hardware problem, because the same problem occurs in Windows too. It also worked before with single-lnb's...
Hello me, nice talking to myself...
Okay, I might have rushed a bit here.
Appears that this is _not_ a hardware problem. I found from somewhere a diseqc.conf where is A and B (for a mini diseqc or alike) commands applied.
Guess what happens when I put the commands in my diseqc.conf? ZZZZAP! Channels work precisely like they did before when I had single LNB's, meaning it works as it should.
But (there's always a but??), if I put for the third satellite command C, vdr won't start, instead it blames me for making an error in diseqc.conf. So I take that there doesn't even exist such a thing as C. My question is now, how do I get 3rd satellite (13.0E in position 3) to work with the 4/1 diseqc (I think it's a 1.0 protocol or whatever it's called).
Here's how it looks now, working so far with 2 first satellites:
[diseqc.conf start] S1.0W 11700 V 9750 t v W15 [E0 10 38 F0] W15 A W15 t S1.0W 99999 V 10600 t v W15 [E0 10 38 F0] W15 A W15 T S1.0W 11700 H 9750 t V W15 [E0 10 38 F0] W15 A W15 t S1.0W 99999 H 10600 t V W15 [E0 10 38 F0] W15 A W15 T

Thanks Lauri for your reply. Unfortunately that configuration doesn't work with my twin-lnb's. I had that configuration from the beginning (since vdr-1.3.24) working with my single-lnb's.
After installing the twin-lnb's, that configuration just makes me have to switch to a channel with h-pol before I like to watch a chan with v-pol. Irritating problem I might say.

Ummm.. by twin-lnb do you mean with two heads and one f-connector and with built in mini-switch ?
What is your third lnb ? How are they connected to diseqc 4-1 switch ?

Thanks for your reply Lauri
It's a universal twin-lnb with two f-connectors (female) at the bottom of the lnb. All three lnb's are twin's. From the bottoms I have pulled two cables to two separate diseqc's. One diseqc is for my standalone receiver and the other for my pc. I have no idea if the lnb's have inbuilt switches, couldn't find any info on the lnb's either than the normal text's.
Oh yeah, the twin's are bought from our famous everyday shop called Biltema (here's the link for the lnb: http://www.biltema.fi/osteri/osteri.cgi?sivu=skriptisivut/index_kauppa.htm&a...)
The diseqc's are also bought from the same quality shop (here's the link for the diseqc: http://www.biltema.fi/osteri/osteri.cgi?sivu=skriptisivut/index_kauppa.htm&a...)
I have tried both of the diseqc's with my pc, both behaving exactly the same. However, the standalone receiver has no problems with the lnb's nor the diseqc switches (I tested with both switches).

No, those LNBs just have two separate outputs. They behave exactly like two independent universal LNBs, but they happen to see the same satellite on the same dish.

I know this stuff. I bought those once and got too interested in satellite systems and upgraded soon to a four-LNB multifocus Triax dish. (Astra1, Hotbird, Sirius and Thor with a single dish)
The old Biltema dish went to my parents' summer cottage. :) Works there with no problems, with a 99e FTA dvb-s box.

Hrrmhmph, I bet your 4x1 switch behaves like mine. Those other guys use F0..F4 command byte to address the ports, but my diseqc switch uses these command bytes:
#22 Position A #23 Option A #26 Position B #27 Option B # port 1 option a position a # port 2 option a position b # port 3 option b position a # port 4 option b position b
The above applies to Biltema 4x1 switch and to my current switch too. Don't remember the name, though. Might have been Digiality or not.
So in your setup I assume that you have ports and LNBs like this:
1 - S1.0W 2 - S5.0E 3 - S13.0E 4 - not used
This diseqc.conf should do the trick:
# port 1 S1.0W 11700 V 9750 t v W15 [E0 10 23] W15 [E0 10 22] W15 t S1.0W 99999 V 10600 t v W15 [E0 10 23] W15 [E0 10 22] W15 T S1.0W 11700 H 9750 t V W15 [E0 10 23] W15 [E0 10 22] W15 t S1.0W 99999 H 10600 t V W15 [E0 10 23] W15 [E0 10 22] W15 T

If the order of ports is different, just edit that. Not that difficult, is it? Just read the diseqc pdf spec. :)

If the order of ports is different, just edit that. Not that difficult, is it? Just read the diseqc pdf spec. :)

Very well written and interesting data you got there. But I don't just get it why even this doesn't work, though you mentioned that it works with the biltema stuff as both of mine are of those. Same thing still occurs with both switches, to watch channels with V-pol I first must switch to a H-pol channel.
Could this somehow be a limitation of the Skystar 2-pci card? Then again, best configuration that actually has worked flawlesly so far with these twin-lnb's is the configuration for a mini-diseqc with A and B commands, but then I'm without the 3rd satellite. Veeery confusing.
I'm off to work now, so I can't continue testing and exploring until tomorrow again.
Thanks for your replies guys, HH

Thanks anyway
