I've just installed a new VDR-system with xineliboutput (openSUSE-packages), and now I'm looking for a possibility to watch DVD-images with best integration into VDR. Unfortunately the media-player of xineliboutput crashes often and does not select automatically the main-film.
I don't need DVD-navigation, just an easy possibility to chose language and subtitles (as in smplayer).
Which one of all the plugins (vdr-play, vdr-dvd, externalplayer, mplayer, etc.) could do the job please? (I've just tried vdr-play, but no success...)

I'm using latest xineliboutput in client-server environment, and it works fine for me. I have dozens of DVD images on a nfs share (created with dd), and they are working well, no freezes, no crashes. DVD images (.img) files appear with a letter "D" ahead in the browser menu, and they're played just as the disc would be in the DVD ROM unit. My single issue is, that I have some copy protected DVD's, and they cannot be replayed from images.

Perhaps I have the wrong DVDs... :( I've compiled latest xineliboutput from CVS, and then: - media player - play file - /data/DVDs/ice-age-2 - red button for "DVD title menu" - select "Play" in DVD menu - freeze - watchdog restart...
No problem with smplayer.

Found the reason: all my DVDs were unpacked. xineliboutput does not seem to like it. Now I've made ISO-images and no more crash!

together the plugins dvd and dvdswitch play titelsets and iso's nativly in vdr another (imho better) solution is something like yavdr does, if needed switching vdr in backround (still running, recording) and use the frontend with xbmc (also has iso support), depending on the system age switching the frontend between vdr and xbmc only takes seconds xbmc is also pretty good for any type of media (i.e. mkv)

Is it possible with either of those 2 solutions to get the following sequence with the remote control: - go to some menu for playing DVDs - select folder/iso-file with copy of DVD - press "play" - main film starts - go to some menu for subtitle selection - go to some menu for audio language selection
And it would be useful too, to have 6 buttons for moving ±10s, ±1m and ±10m.

Just one issue: how can you see the OSD, while mplayer is running? (my output device is xineliboutput)
Support for seeing the VDR osd over mplayer doesn't exist. That's the one thing I'd like to have also but honestly it hasn't really been an issue at all.
